Jacobeans knocked off the list, as records tumble!!!!
2008 has been a vintage year on the Athletics field, at St James School, with seven long standing records beaten.
James Tesar was the only record-breaker on Sports Day (held at the School Fields), when he knocked half a second off Michael Greens Year 10 200m time of 25.6 seconds, which was set back in 1990.
Both our Girls and Boys teams won their respective Percentage Trophies at this years Grimsby and District Championships, which were held at Grimsbys King George V Stadium. Records falling on the day, were as follows: Toby Stafford-Allens Year 9 Shot-Putt distance of 10.67m, which was set at the ISA Championships in 1989. (Henry Tang 11.30m) Girls Year 9 Relay time of 1min 6.4 secs, which was set at the District Championships in 1989. (Year 9 Girls Team 1min 4.7secs) Andrew Percivals Year 7 400 time of 1min11.5secs, which was set at the ISA Championships in 1990. (Oscar Cleve 1min 6.1 sec) Henry Pinchbecks (Year 7) Long Jump distance of 3.69m, which was set at the ISA Championships in 1989. (Oscar Cleve 3.95m) Lizzy Powells Year 8 Discus throw of 13.24m, which was set on Sports Day in 1994. (Hannah G. 17.34m) Vicky Marshalls Year 9 Discus distance of 15.21m, which was set in the Milk Cup Championships in 1992. (Becky Procter 17.35m)
Several other records also came under threat. Our Year 8 Girls Relay team were District Champions on the day, only to miss the record by three tenths of a second. Even Gary Thomas (1989) 11.32sec time for the U18 100m came under threat, on Sports Day, but Michael Buwembos recorded time of 9.8seconds would have probably put him on the Olympic Medal rostrum and therefore, unfortunately, due to human error, it cannot be used¦but gets a mention anyway!!
To see if your record still stands, check out the list attached.
