Lent Term News Round Up

Welcome to our News-Round-Up for Lent Term 2006
Boarders Xscape to The City
It has been a busy term for St James’ School boarders who have enjoyed, amongst other things, weekend trips to The Doncaster Dome, the Leeds dry slope skiing centre 'Xscape', the paintballing centre near Barnetby, and Manchester’s ‘Eastlands’ stadium, to watch The Premiership match between Manchester City and Sunderland.

Dance Workshop
A Dance Workshop was arranged by Miss Harvey for interested members of the Senior Department. The event, which was held in the Masters’ Room, proved to be a great success.

Public Speaking
The annual Inter House Public Speaking competition was held in the Markham Hall, on Wednesday 15th March. Thanks must go to Mrs Farmer, for organising the event and to Rev. David Sudron, who kindly gave up his time to come and officiate the occasion.
Blow Your Own Trumpet
This year’s ‘Blow Your Own Trumpet’ evening, for students who take lessons in Speech and Drama, was as entertaining as ever and included a wide range of material, performed by Prep and Senior Department pupils alike. Many thanks, as always, must go to Mrs Clare McVeigh, for both preparing the performers and organising the event.

Tennis Club
Senior School Tennis Club has already started after its winter break and will run throughout the summer term on a Wednesday evening from 4.15 - 5.15pm, at St James’ Tennis Club. We shall, once again, be entering teams in all age-groups in the Grimsby and District Leagues, for Boys and Girls.
Maths Week
This proved to be a great success, once again. As well as the daily competitions, Charlotte’s Sudoku Challenge, the Junior House Maths Challenge and the Times Tables Mastermind all proved to be very competitive. Well done to Mia Champion for holding her nerve, in front of the whole School, to win the Mastermind, amongst some strong competition from pupils in years 10 and 11. After Easter, teams from Years 7, 8 and 9 will be involved in some Inter School Maths Challenges. Good luck!
