 Why History?

WHY SHOULD I PICK HISTORY AS AN OPTION?

History is...
Hard but rewarding work
Interesting
Study of real people in a living past
Topical
Of
Real value in employment                                                                                                            You learn to ask why, why why...

When studying History you will:

1. Be analytical and critical when considering information presented to you.

2. Weigh conflicting factors carefully before taking critical decisions.

3. Use information effectively - this can help shed light on a particular problem or issue confronting an
    organisation or individual.

What will History do for me?
Help you to understand how people tick, what motivates them, what they think and feel;
Allow you to gather and read different kinds of information;
Allow you to look carefully at this information and check it for bias or propaganda;
Help you to communicate clearly and have learned to express yourself verbally on paper.

Essential skills that historians have and employers want:

- Independent thinkers.
- Open-minded.
- Disciplined.
- Good at problem solving.
- Able to pick out the essential from the trivial.
