History in the 6th Form at Saint James is taught to the AQA Specification at both AS and A2 level. The course aims to give students not only the skills required to complete the examinations, but also skills that will allow them to develop as independent learners.
The intent of AS Level is to ease the student into the more rigorous and rewarding workload. There will be an option to sit one of the modules in January. If this option is taken it can provide the student with invaluable examination experience, which will only benefit them in the long run. History is a core humanities subject that complements English Language and Literature, Media Studies and languages such as French or German. All these subjects develop the student’s ability to filter information and present an argument in an informative and exciting manner. History can also provide a unique contrast to those students who are taking scientific subjects as it can assist to develop the analytical mind but through more subjective means.
