Student Welfare
Careers As well as receiving the best tuition, it is important that our students go on to receive the best support and advice in planning their future. In order to cater for the needs of each individual, tutorial time is allocated within the weekly timetable. During these sessions, students are able to discuss and obtain sound information regarding the best suited moves for them. Whether opting for Further Education or entering the working world. A career facilitator is available on a daily basis and a career advisor, administered by the local authorities, regularly visits our school to meet Year 12 and 13 students. Visits to Universities, including talks on how to choose the best courses, how to complete a personal statement and how to organise finances and accommodation feature in our programme of studies. Further assistance and guidance are given when filling in university applications. We also invite local businessmen to the School to give talks on their enterprise and to answer questions or queries from students.
Dress Code Our Sixth Formers are not required to wear a uniform, but we do believe that a formal dress code is appropriate for a working environment. For the men, a suit or a fitted jacket and trousers are required and a suit, a skirt or fitted trousers and a blouse for women.
Support St. James’ Sixth Form offers students an ideal learning environment. We aim to enable each individual to achieve their full potential. This is made easier by our low student/teacher ratios. Personal advice and consistent support are available to ensure that students are aware of all the existing opportunities to suit their skills and talents. A pastoral care, which is central to our tutorial system, provides effective guidance for the decisions students will ultimately make towards their future.
